Hi! I’m Krystal, or some call me Spice or even Spicey! Yes I am one of those lycra clad nutters on a bike and I’m not ashamed to admit it. I love riding my bike, its my life and it never gets old, how could it? Every time I pedal out there’s a new adventure to be had and that’s important in life!

The Early Years

I’ve loved bikes ever since I had my first pink bike complete with stabilisers and a basket for Ted to sit in and I’ve chased my brothers around on theirs ever since!

In 2007 I bought my first ‘proper’ bike, although it was still pink!! It was a Kona Lisa HT mountain bike and I flung it and myself down the trails like there was no tomorrow!! I loved exploring new trails, but also the adrenaline of going downhill… fast!

In 2011 I signed up for what would be the biggest challenge of my life – to take part in the Deloitte Ride Across Britain as a team with my work and so a road bike was required and set about learning how not to fall off because my feet were clipped in… this took a while. My friend and I had made a pact to stick together and to ride as much of the route as we could and we ended up riding from John O’Groats to Manchester 540 miles in 5 days. This was a mega challenge and I loved it!

In 2012 I headed off to travel the world, I visited many countries and worked as a scuba diving instructor on the beautiful island of Koh Tao for a year or so – unfortunately there were no roads here for riding but I kept up with a mountain bike I’d take out every now and then to work up a sweat on the hills.

When I returned to the UK at the end of 2014 I continued riding my bike, but added some swimming and running into the mix and completed a half Ironman in 2015 with the hope of completing a full Ironman one day. Due to injuries from running I then decided to give triathlon a break and focus on my riding.

In 2016 I got my new Liv Envie Tri and this was best purchase I have ever made! Although I still keep my Giant Defy for the winter, I love my Liv and continued to push those pedals, but feeling extra speedy and extra light! (Plus extra colour co-ordinated, which is also extremely important!)

2017 and Beyond

Since the beginning of 2017 I have stepped into the world of endurance cycling and I bloody well love it! I’ve always enjoyed the long distance stuff, just the thought of a challenge so big it makes you feel all squiffy and excited.

I’ve learnt so much already and with the help of my wonderful coach, I have hit many personal milestones in my training – I’ve cycled the furthest I’ve ever been in one go, I’ve done back to back long distance days, I’ve had my first solo bikepacking adventure when I cycled to Paris and back, I’ve completed Audax events which I’d never even heard of, I’ve cycle guided in a different country and I’ve overcome a lot of the mental battles you have when your out there for hours in the saddle dwindling the miles away and that is the thing I love the most about long distance cycling – you push those pedals and you watch the scenery go by but the journey you take in your mind is forever challenging, you push yourself in new ways, you find new methods to overcome things you never thought were possible – you lose yourself in your own thoughts but you find out who you really are!

I started up my blog Spiceys Cycling Adventures to share my adventures with you all and I hope to inspire others to get out there too!

Currently I am training full time and I’ve got many big challenges ahead of me, the kind of challenge that gives you that nervous excitement, one to comprehend how big this will be and two the thought that yes, little old me might just be strong enough to take this challenge and absolutely boss it!

I hope you enjoy reading about the ups and downs of my training, challenges and crazy ideas that I get in my head and that you get out there and find your challenge!
